House preparation
• Dry clean the house by scrubbing and removing manure
- Clean the house thoroughly with water and detergent
- Rinse, dry, and apply a disinfectant.
- Clean and disinfect all feeders and drinkers and any other equipment
- Rest the house for 10 days before your next placing
- Destroy mosquito brooding areas and remove weeds.
- Put bedding, preferably wood shaving, wheat straws or grass
- Preheat the house 24 hours before chicks arrive
Chick placement
- Stocking density is 33 birds/m2
- Give fresh clean water and put a stress pack for the first 6 days
- Note chick behavior to determine correct temperatures. If chicks huddle together they are too cold and if they move away from the feeders to the walls they are too hot.
- Check crop content. If it is too hard, there is less water; if it is extended water is present but no feed
- Leave a 10cm gap at the top of the curtains to allow ventilation and always open curtains from top to bottom
- Keep fonts and feeders clean
